Daija is a highly skilled litigator and appellate attorney with experience as lead counsel in trials and appeals in both federal and state courts. She manages all aspects of litigation, including pre-suit investigation, case management, discovery, motion practice, negotiations, trials, and appeals. Her broad legal experience includes handling matters involving products liability, real estate, civil rights, fraud, breach of contract, torts, local taxation, and governmental disputes.

Having previously served as a federal and state appellate law clerk, Daija is frequently sought after for trial and appellate support. In this role, she helps preserve appellate issues at trial, conducts necessary motion practice, and handles post-trial and appellate proceedings.

Prior to joining MM&H, Daija served as an Assistant County Attorney for the Miami-Dade County Attorney’s Office where she represented the Property Appraiser, the Tax Collector, and the County’s Special Taxing Districts Division in taxation, assessment, and financial matters.  She regularly defended the County in cases involving challenges to market value assessments, liens, property tax collection, and other real estate related issues, and successfully handled multimillion-dollar property tax disputes related to the valuation of some of the County’s largest and most valuable properties.

During her time at the County Attorney’s Office, Daija also represented the County and its law enforcement officers in federal civil rights cases.

Daija brings to the office the experience of having clerked for both federal appellate and state appellate courts.  Daija served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Peter T. Fay, United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Prior to her clerkship with Judge Fay, Daija also served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Melanie G. May, Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal.

Daija received her Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from East Carolina University, and her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law. While in law school, she served on the executive board of the Charles C. Papy Jr. Moot Court Board, served as Articles and Comments Editor of the University of Miami Law Review, and was a member of the Federal Appellate Clinic.
