before and after the coronavirus overhang.

It’s been an off year for almost everyone, but an assortment of South Florida attorneys found ways to make noteworthy achievements before and after the coronavirus overhang.

We recognize them with the Daily Business Review’s 16th annual Most Effective Lawyers awards for work that concluded in the year ended Sept. 30.

Legal teams reached settlements in long-running litigation over the suicide bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen, for victims of a plane crash involving members of a Brazilian soccer team and for a bankrupt contractor involved in the deadly Florida International University pedestrian bridge collapse.

In a fish-out-of-water case, a two-company corporate takeover was executed in probate courts because the litigation involved family-owned businesses.

A West Palm Beach attorney secured an acquittal for an ex-Barclays banker in London on charges tied to the 2008 financial crisis and Qatar.

And contemplating the revival of South Florida’s cruise industry, an attorney pushed through patents to make shipboard social-distancing more customary and reduce the risk of viral spread at sea.

These examples and more are offered to show the breadth of talent and success in the region’s legal community.
